This study intends to determine the attitudes of the students in the faculty of education towards profession of teaching. To this end, it is questioned whether “the attitudes of students towards the profession of teaching differ according to the variables including their gender, the type of the department/program they study, the order of the program in the UEE (University Entrance Examination) preference list, the socio-economic status (SES) of the neighborhood and family they live in, the grade they attend, type of schooling, and the reasons for choosing teaching profession”. The participants of the study comprise 593 students who are selected using rated cluster sampling method for the departments and rated element sampling method for the classes. All of the prospective teachers participating this study were administered the instrument for data collection. Abstract This research aimed to reveal how prospective teachers viewed their professional future and to discern how their lives would be affected in case they were not recruited as teachers. The research was conducted on senior students at Buca Faculty of Education. The sample of the research consisted of 149 senior students, including 82 girls and 67 males. The data were collected through a measurement instrument developed for this research, consisting of six open-ended questions. In data analyses, Miles’ and Huberman’s approach, namely “data reduction”, “data display” and “conclusion verification”, was made use of. Some of the results of the research could be outlined as follows: About 40% of the participants attended the programs they had chosen unwillingly, 87% would like to work as teachers, 81% thought that working on contract was not fair, 34% stated that they would not work everywhere in the country, %81 had negative ideas about their professional future, and 91% thought that their lives would be affected very badly in case they were not appointed as teachers.

The purpose of this study was to investigate teacher candidates’ attitudes towards the teaching profession according to their gender, field and programs from which they have graduated, and whether or not practiced teaching profession before. The research group included 180 female (%83.33) and 36 male (%16.66) teacher candidates studying in Pedagogical Formation Certificate Program at Yildiz Technical University. The Attitude Scale Related to Teaching Profession having been developed by Erkuş, Sanlı, Bağlı and Güven (2000) for measuring the attitudes of teachers toward teaching profession was administered as a data collection tool. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test and one-way ANOVA. Results revealed that while teaching experience has an important effect on attitudes towards teaching, but gender, field, and program variables do not have any significant effect on it. Also, it was found that the teacher candidates in pedagogical formation certificate program have a positive attitude towards the teaching profession. The aim of this study is to reveal the attitudes of students to the teaching profession in terms of selfesteem, altruism, social comparison, life satisfaction, humor style, a five-factor personality types of the students of the Pedagogical Formation Education Certificate Program (PFECP), and to determine the relationships if there is between them. According to the results obtained, we found that though there is no significant relationship between the attitudes of pre-service teachers toward teaching and aggressive and subversive humor, there is a negative relationship between and altruism, social comparison, life satisfaction, extraversion, docility, responsibility, positive emotions, affiliative humor, self progressive, openness to experience, while positive significant relations between the attitudes of pre-service teachers toward teaching and neuroticism, self-esteem. Life satisfaction, neuroticism, responsibility, positive emotions and affiliative humor was found to be significant predictors of attitudes toward teaching. The other variables were not found to be a meaningful predictor. The total prediction level was found to be .16.
